Direct to Consumer Information

The Coronavirus has caused many local farms and producers to shift their traditional pathways to market in record time in order to save their yields and meet consumer demand where it still remains. If you are a producer, both the state (FDACS) and SWFL Regional Planning Council have ways to list your products if you are selling direct to consumer. If you are looking for locally sourced items for purchase, please view the Consumer information. Check back as things are constantly changing and we are working to maintain as much updated information as possible.

For Growers/Producers

KEEP FLORIDA GROWING

FDACS and UF/IFAS are asking your assistance with creating a list of farms, businesses, and online markets selling Florida-grown food directly to final consumers.

The list may include farms selling directly to consumers, online farmers markets, community food hubs, or food distributors who now are selling directly to households.

An online form has been created to collect this information. The information submitted through this form will be made public to help consumers find local and online options for purchasing Florida-grown food. It may also help farms identify additional market outlets.

Please use this link to add your listing:

SEEKING GROWERS FOR GLEANING

The UF/IFAS Extension Family Nutrition Program and Society of St. Andrew are seeking growers for gleaning partnership. The economic toll of COVID-19 has exacerbated food insecurity and increased demand at emergency food distribution agencies. Society of St. Andrew is working to meet this growing need by gleaning unmarketable produce at Florida farms to donate to feed the hungry.

State and Federal laws protect farmers from liability when making donations of food to nonprofit organizations that feed the hungry. Growers are also eligible for tax deductions when donating food.

More information about tax incentives and liability protections for growers who open their fields to gleaners can be found in the attached documents and on the FDACS Food Recovery Program website: https://www.fdacs.gov/Food-Nutrition/Nutrition-Programs/Food-Recovery-Program.

If you’re interested in donating your product via gleaning, please contact Kelly Wilson at kelly.wilson@ufl.edu or 239-271-8244.
